EXHIBITOR NEWS: Quality South African honey with more than 60 years heritage
Peel’s is a proudly South African brand, which sees Africa’s Big 7 as offering several great reasons to attend: “Africa’s Big 7 is an important opportunity to showcase our products, increase our brand awareness, and support South Africa’s bee population and honey industry.
“We recognise the importance of supporting the local industry and take pride in our South African heritage. The South African honey market is witnessing a sharp decline in its bee population and is being flooded by cheap imports.
“Peels ensures that its honey supply is from South African apiaries that have a traditional understanding of beekeeping – this means beekeeping that recognises a dependence on nature to ensure sustainability and the long-term wellbeing of South Africa’s bee population and honey market.”
Peel’s was established in 1924 and is the oldest honey brand in South Africa. It was originally owned by Mr Jack Peel, who kept bees as a hobby. He began selling small quantities of honey and as demand grew he increased his hives.
In 1956 Jack met a local bee man, John Smith, and his wife, Faye. The two began working together and when Jack died in 1959, John took over the business. The Smith’s used to park their car next to the national road and people would buy from their boot. This progressed into a wooden Kiosk not far from the freeway. The current Peel’s shop was built more than 20 years ago and has become a popular landmark and stopping point on the scenic Midlands Meander.
Peel’s Products on Exhibition:
Peel’s Honeys – Farmstall Range
Peel’s honeys are award winning, having recently won the Championship Trophy at this year’s Royal Show in Pietermaritzburg!
The majority of our honey is sourced from more than 7,000 of our own hives across Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Orange Free State, the rest is sourced from local beekeepers. We build strong partnerships with beekeepers to ensure that we supply only the best quality honey from known sources.
Peel’s Honey is 100 per cent pure, non-irradiated South African honey. We provide a range of multiflora liquid, raw, and creamed honeys, as well as single-source speciality honeys.
