Innovation is the lifeblood of a thriving company and economy. To grow the economy, we need to identify and recognize some of the innovative work taking place on our continent.

The ability to identify a need in the market and develop an innovative product or service to meet this need is something that should be celebrated.

In the spirit of recognising outstanding achievements in new food and beverage product innovations, we are proud to launch the Innovation Awards.

What is it?

  • A call to enter will be sent out for people to submit nominations across several categories at the Innovation Awards.
  • We will use our extensive databases, as well as a dedicated marketing campaign, to call for entries, which will run
    from March-May 2023.
  • All entries will then be qualified, and the submissions go before our expert judging panel, where they will be scored
    on multiple criteria including usefulness, innovation, design, and response to the market.
  • Following the scoring, the finalists will be announced.
  • Each finalist will be displayed prominently on the exhibition floor.
  • The winners will be announced in a ceremony on the opening day of the show, 18 June 2023.

Criteria for each product category

Groceries, Snacking, Beverages (including Alcohol)

Packaging

Sustainability (food or packaging, sourcing)

  1. 3yrs: Must be a new product that has been in the market for less than 36months (3 years).
  2. Scaleable: Must be a product that has the potential to scale into new channels or markets.
  3. Longeveity: Must be a product that is solving a long term need or gap on the market.
  4. Incremental: Must be a product that is adding incremental revenue to its mother business/ brand.
  5. Barrier to entry: The product must ideally have a strong barrier to entry or unique IP that makes it difficult for competitors to fast follow.

Business Model Innovation

(B2B, B2C, D2C, ecommerce, delivery methods, fintech, route to market)

  1. 3yrs: Must be a new Business Model solution that has been in the market for less than 36months (3 years).
  2. Scaleable: Must be a BM product that has the potential to scale into new channels or markets.
  3. Longeveity: Must be a BM product that is solving a long term need or gap on the market.
  4. Incremental: Must be a BM product that is adding incremental revenue to its mother business/ brand.
  5. Barrier to entry: The BM product must ideally have a strong barrier to entry or unique IP that makes it difficult for competitors to fast follow.
