Why Africa’s premier food & beverage event is so important to the industry
Details have been revealed of Africa Hospitality Week 2018, which brings together three B2B events, hundreds of suppliers, thousands of buyers and more than 200 thought leaders to South Africa from June 24-26.
One of the leading events, Africa’s Big 7, promises a valuable business experience for F&B professionals from across the continent.
Africa’s Big 7 is the continent’s premier food and beverage event, now in its 17th year, attracts global suppliers offering products across processing, packaging and logistics as well as finished and specialty food and drink, ingredients and flavouring.
“Africa’s food and drink sector is evolving at speed and the trend this year around the world is very much back to basics,” said Christine Davidson, Vice President of the organiser dmg events.
“However, while the food menus are reflecting this trend, the production, packaging and technology behind delivery is changing fast.
“Technology is bringing the Fourth Industrial Revolution across the world and hospitality will change. So, there is much to discover and learn at this year’s event. From the way technology will transform operational efficiency and quality, to implementing new hygiene regulations. And alongside, visitors can see some exciting live competitions.”
Alongside the exhibition, The Food Leadership Forum 2018 is a three-day conference with 70+ speakers. Expert presentations and panel discussions will examine the F&B sector’s trends, opportunities and challenges in such a fast moving environment.
Specialist sectors of Africa’s Big 7 this year focus on free training courses to develop knowledge and skills. Visitors can sign up for training in barista, mixology and food hygiene.
There is a special focus on farming this year with free skills training aimed at targeting smallholders, and urban farmers from the region. Farming experts will offer interactive sessions, which will improve the productivity, efficiency and profitability of small and new farming operations.
The World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS) will host the first Inter-hotel Chefs’ Competition in Africa and this joins other exciting live competitions to be announced by March.
Africa’s Big 7 attracts visitors from across the continent, last year buyers from more than 30 countries visited Johannesburg to source the latest products, find new partners and conclude some huge export and import deals.
