Tim Harlech-Jones
Tim is the Business Development Director at Bentel Associates International, and has nearly 20 years experience in the design and construction of hotels and resorts across Africa, Indian Ocean Islands and the Middle-East. Tim joined DSA Architects International from 2003 through to 2013, working on a large number of hotel and resort projects across the continent and the Middle-East, before joining Extrabold Hotel Management as their Group Development Director, responsible for sourcing management agreements and working alongside project professional teams with respect to operator requirements.
In 2015, Tim joined Bentel Associates International, a well-known Johannesburg-based Architectural and Interior Design practice, to focus on hospitality projects and to grow their pipeline of work across all asset classes. The practice is currently overseeing 8 hotel projects of over 1300+ keys under construction in South Africa, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Uganda.
Tim is a graduate of the University of Cape Town’s School of Architecture, receiving his Bachelor of Architectural Studies in 1996 and Bachelor of Architecture in 1999. He is a registered Architect with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP), a member of the South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) and the Gauteng Institute of Architects (GIFA), and is the company representative for the South African Property Owner’s Association (SAPOA). Tim is also a graduate of the SAPOA Property Development Programme (PDP) and completed the Art and Science of Negotiation course at the Wits Business School in 2014.
Tim is passionate about hospitality design and planning, having worked as a Consultant and also Operator-side, gaining invaluable expertise in working on hotel and resort projects which are internationally, regionally, or locally branded (sometimes unbranded) and ranging in size and across multiple segments from budget hotels through to ultra-luxury resorts.
